The Music Digest - Modern Jazz

The Music Digest listening programmes presented by music journalist Dan Sywala (CT art, ČRo Jazz, Full Moon) have become a fixed part of the programme of the Prague club Palác Akropolis. For clubs outside of Prague, Dan is preparing a special programme dedicated to modern jazz, which he is now bringing to the Jazz Tibet Club in Olomouc.

Guests of the evening will be Radim Přidal, guitarist of Point of Few and on line will be joined by composer and pianist Nikol Bóková.

The two-hour video presentation "The Music Digest - Modern Jazz" aims to present some of the most interesting current artists from the Czech and international music scene dedicated to jazz, whether in a more traditional way or more experimental. The selection is influenced by the personal experience of the presenter, who has interviewed these artists or prepared programmes about them, charting their complete output.

Dan Sywala's listening programmes have been running since 2017, they started as a purely charity project for SONS - the United Organisation of the Blind and Partially Sighted. "My main inspiration was Steven Wilson, a prominent British prog rock musician, who complained during our conversation that people today don't have the space to close their eyes and listen to music for two hours. The same goes for Jiří Černý, with whom I worked together in the editorial office of Rock & All magazine and we had a conversation about our listening sessions that year.

Sywala is currently working in the team of ČRo Jazz, CT art, Full Moon, Harmonie and on his platform Rock'n'Roll Journalist. He previously worked at Television Seznam, and was part of the editorial team at Muzikus magazine for eleven years. His main focus is on interviews and his most famous guests have included Adam Clayton (U2), Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica), Stewart Copeland (The Police), Richard Kruspe (Rammstein), Andrea Bocelli, Slash, Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park), Avishai Cohen and Goran Bregović.
